Abstract Aeromonas hydrophila causes sepsis and is responsible for significant economic losses in Asian finless eel ( Monopterus albus ) aquaculture. Previous studies have found that macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) Cathepsin B (CTSB) may be expressed many vertebrate tissues organs. However, there been no reports discussing the importance of MIF CTSB swamp eel. The complete ORF sequences MAMIF MACTSB were to 348 993 bp, respectively. adaptive analysis showed highly conserved, only two positive selection sites identified . Quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR) demonstrated genes all evaluated with highest expression occurring head kidney, spleen liver. Challenge resulted a increase skin, liver, kidney peaked at 12‐h post‐infection. results show play important roles immune function
